I couldn't find any knitted cardigan patterns that had a design I liked for my eight month old twin grandchildren. Then I remembered that I used cross stitch patterns when I knitted sweaters for my daughter when she was their age.
I searched cross stitch images on Google and found a heart and a train. I took one of my plain knitting patterns and incorporated the design by changing colors of yarn at the appropriate places (the same as you would with a cross stitch pattern). They turned out great but I'm not sure I would do the train again. It was very time consuming trying to keep all the different colored yarn from tangling.
The twins seem to like their new sweaters. Of course I think they're adorable no matter what they're wearing.
