I've found another local crochet group which is very involved in the community, making fidget mats for alzhiemer patients, baby hats for a local crisis pregnancy center, small items to give away for random acts of kindness, and seat belt covers. The seat belt covers are for mastectomy/breast cancer patients. It relieves the pressure of a seat belt.
Seat belt cover
5.5 mm crochet needle
Size 7" x 7 1/2" (will depend upon your tension)
Use two strands of yarn like Red Heart (or one strand of thicker yarn)
1. Chain 18 (or longer if desired)
2. Double crochet (dc) or U.K. treble (trbl) in the 4th chain from hook and each subsequent chain.
3. Turn, 3 chain, miss 1 stitch, dc in each stitch to the end.
4. Continue Row 3 until the seat belt cover measures 7 1/2"
You can either use the holes already created as a button hole or on the last hole chain 3 (2 if using smaller buttons) miss 3 stitches (or 2) single crochet until last three (or 2) stitches, 3 chain, sc in last space.
Sew buttons on opposite side.
