At the YMCA Benbrook Community Center, ladies meet one evening a month to crochet lapghans to be distributed at nursing homes in the winter. They are made especially to keep the residents, who are confined to wheelchairs, warm. The size of the lapghans are approximately 30" x 42".
A couple I have made recently are shown in the picture. One is a large rectangular granny square - pattern here.
For the other, I knitted squares in a basket weave pattern (K5, P5) with a garter stitch border using 6mm needles. 50 stitches and 50 rows for each square.
I did a crochet border around each square then joined them together.
