This time of year we're thinking about Autumn/Fall, pumpkin spice and warm orange colors so it's perfect for this adorable hat in pumpkin colors.Needle size: 6 - 4mm
Yarn: I use either Red Heart yarn of Caron Simply Soft
Finished size: 13" x 5 1/2"
Cast on 64 stitches in orange (add 8 stitches for each additional size)
Stocking stitch (1 row knit, 1 row purl) for 4 1/2" (add 1/2" for each additional size)
Decrease rows: (knit two stitches together to decrease)
Note: It may not always work out that you have the exact amount of stitches at the end of the row
Row 1: k1, (dec, k5) repeat to end
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k1, (dec, k4) repeat to end
Row 4: purl
Row 5: k1, (dec, k3) repeat to end
Row 6: purl
Row 7: k1, (dec, k2) repeat to end
Row 8: purl
Change to green yarn
Row 9: k1, (dec, k1) repeat to end
Row 10: k 2 together (repeat)
You will probably have around 8 stitches left.
Row 11-14: stocking stitch for stem
Cast off
Sew the back seam
Trailing stem:
Cast on 20 stitches in green
Knit in front and back of each stitch
Bind off
Sew to the stem
For thicker yarn:
Use 6 1/2 mm needles
Cast on 40 stitches and follow directions above (you may need to make the trailing stem shorter.
